KANSAS CITY, Mo. — This Shark Week, individuals can help save lives and get closer to sharks and other marine life with the American Red Cross at the Sea Life Kansas City Aquarium Shark Week Blood Drive July 24 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 2475 Grand Blvd., in the Crown Center. Those who come out to donate will receive a ticket for free admission to the aquarium, while supplies last.
This blood drive comes when the Red Cross is facing a critical blood shortage and is issuing an emergency call for donors of all types to give now so patients can continue to receive the lifesaving treatments they need. Blood products are being distributed to hospitals faster than donations are coming in, and more donations are needed now to replenish the blood supply.
“Blood donations are important throughout the year, but are especially needed now as the Red Cross faces a critical summer blood shortage,” said Joe Zydlo, external communications manager of the American Red Cross Missouri-Illinois Blood Services Region. “Giving blood is a simple way to help overcome the blood emergency and ensure patients continue receive lifesaving care throughout the summer.”
Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood, including trauma patients, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, and those receiving treatment for leukemia, cancer or sickle cell disease. There is no substitute for blood, and volunteer donors are the only source.
