OLNEY, Ill. — The American Red Cross announced that its valued partner Richland Memorial Hospital has reached silver-level status in the Red Cross’ Champions for Life program. The mission of the American Red Cross Biomedical Services is to provide the American people with the safest, most reliable, most cost-effective blood possible through voluntary donations.
Richland Memorial Hospital was awarded a silver-level plaque on August 15 for hosting three blood drives in 2015. They collected a total of 82 units of blood for patients in need. The Champions for Life program benefits the Red Cross in two ways: by increasing blood donations at hospital-sponsored blood drives; and by recognizing hospital sponsors and blood donors for their generous efforts.

“Richland Memorial Hospital has been a wonderful partner,” said Tammy Lampe, senior account manager, for the American Red Cross Missouri-Illinois Blood Services Region. “They continue to show their commitment to the community by hosting multiple drives each year. The Red Cross is honored to work side-by-side with them and their staff.”

How to donate blood
Simply download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) to make an appointment or for more information. All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental consent in some states), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood.
High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements. Blood donors can now save time at their next donation by using RapidPass to complete their pre-donation reading and health history questionnaire online, on the day of their donation, prior to arriving at the blood drive.
