MANCHESTER, N.H. (May 26, 2017) — The American Red Cross and WMUR Channel 9 are inviting donors from around New Hampshire to join them on Friday, June 2 to help keep the blood supply strong.
The WMUR blood drive comes at the beginning of the difficult summer months, a time when many regular donors postpone giving blood due to vacation plans or other summer activities. Blood drive locations, times and hours for Friday, June 2 include:
Saint Anselm College Carr Center
87 Saint Anselm Drive, Goffstown
Hours: 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.
Great Bay Community College
320 Corporate Drive, Portsmouth
Hours: 12 p.m. – 6 p.m.
St. Charles Borromeo Church
Route 25, Meredith
Hours: 12 p.m. – 6 p.m.
Union Congregational Church
33 Concord Street, Peterborough
Hours: 12 p.m. – 6 p.m.
"Blood drives help fill a critical need during the summer months - a time when blood donations historically decrease due to vacations and school being out of session," said Maria Devlin, regional CEO for the Red Cross of New Hampshire and Vermont. "The demand for blood doesn't take a vacation. Our region must collect nearly 700 units of blood and platelets daily to meet patient needs."
Suburban Propane is a proud national sponsor of the American Red Cross Blood Services and is helping to increase awareness of the constant need for blood and platelet donations. All presenting donors at these June 2 blood drives will get a $10 Visa gift card, courtesy of Suburban Propane.
Those who come to donate can enjoy an on-site cookout with barbeque chicken, hot dogs, hamburgers, veggie burgers, potato salad, brownies and much more. Donors at the Saint Anselm location will also be treated to a breakfast selection of bacon, eggs, sausage and assorted breakfast pastries.
Donors are strongly encouraged to schedule an appointment for the blood drive by visiting redcrossblood.org and entering sponsor code “WMUR” or calling 1-800-RED CROSS or downloading the Red Cross Blood Donor App.
How to donate blood
Simply download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) to make an appointment or for more information. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
