The Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire and American Red Cross are continuing their annual tradition of helping to save lives by hosting a blood drive on Saturday, August 13 or Sunday, August 14 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Lancaster.
“While our guests come here to enjoy themselves and escape to another time and place for a little while, we know that hospital patients can’t take a vacation from needing blood and platelets.” said Candace Smith, communications / operations director, Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire. “This blood drive is an important part of our event each summer and is our way to give back to the community and to offer our attendees an opportunity to do so as well.”
All presenting donors at this blood drive will receive one general admission ticket to the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire for the 2016 season.
“While thousands of people from across the country have responded to the emergency request for blood and platelet donations issued by the Red Cross in early July, a critical blood shortage remains,” said Beth Toll, external communications manager, Red Cross Northeastern Pennsylvania Blood Services Region. “All eligible donors are encouraged to make a donation appointment to help ensure blood is available throughout the rest of the summer to meet patient needs.”

Right now, blood products are being distributed to hospitals faster than donations are coming in. Every two seconds in the United States blood and platelets are needed to respond to patient emergencies, including accident and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, and those receiving treatment for leukemia, cancer or sickle cell disease. The Red Cross must collect approximately 14,000 blood and platelet donations every day for the patients at about 2,600 hospitals and transfusion centers nationwide.
As an additional special thank you for coming to donate, all presenting donors will also receive a $5 Amazon.com gift card claim code.
