The American Red Cross and Cedar Fair theme parks are joining together to encourage blood donations at select locations this summer. Those who come out to donate blood at Butler Township Community Center, 411 W. Butler Drive in Drums, Pennsylvania, on June 25 will receive one free ticket, valid for entry to participating U.S. Cedar Fair parks, including Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom, while supplies last. Tickets are valid during the 2020 and 2021 seasons, and other restrictions may apply.
Blood donation appointments for Butler Township’s community blood drive are available between 1-6 p.m. Donors are asked to schedule an appointment prior to arriving at the drive and are required to wear a face covering or mask while at the drive, in alignment with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention public guidance. “Blood donations are always needed, but especially during the summer months when donations tend to decline due to vacations and travel among regular donors,” said Justin Leman, regional donor services executive for the Red Cross Northeastern Pennsylvania Blood Services Region. “The Red Cross is grateful to blood donors for coming together to support patients during this time, and now, thanks to Cedar Fair, individuals can help save lives and have the time of their lives at a Cedar Fair theme park.”
The Red Cross is now testing all blood, platelet and plasma donations for COVID-19 antibodies for a limited time, providing donors insight into whether they have been exposed to this coronavirus. Donors who help support the urgent need by giving at this drive will be able to view their results 7-10 days after donation through the Red Cross Blood Donor App or at RedCrossBlood.org. Each Red Cross blood drive follows the highest standards of safety and infection control, and additional precautions – including temperature checks, social distancing and face coverings for donors and staff – have been implemented to protect the health of all those in attendance.
How to donate blood
Simply download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App, schedule online, call 1-800-RED CROSS or enable the Blood Donor Skill on any Alexa Echo device to make an appointment or for more information. All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
Blood and platelet donors can save time at their next donation by using RapidPass® to complete their pre-donation reading and health history questionnaire online, on the day of their donation, before arriving at the blood drive.
