Luis Branco, PhD
Luis Branco has 29+ years of experience in the conceptualization anddevelopment of first-in-class immunotherapeutics, diagnostics, and vaccinecandidates for high consequence Category A blood borne viral and bacterialpathogens. He has lead scientific teams from research through clinicalevaluation of therapeutics, and implementation of field deployable diagnostics inaustere settings, supported by over USD 60M+ in public funding toward the development offirst-in-class antivirals and diagnostics for viral hemorrhagic fevers, as co-founderof two small biotech startups. His interests currently focus on blood borne pathogens of high consequenceto transfusion blood products safety, specifically on improving existing platforms and developing new diagnostics and testing algorithms for emerging pathogens that can impact the blood supply.
Research Interests:
- Prevention of transfusion-transmitted infections focusing on babesia and other vector-borne infections.
- Monitoring of emerging agents and screening interventions.
