Meet Daniela, a teenager living with thalassemia, a rare blood disorder that requires her to receive lifesaving blood transfusions every three weeks. Her body does not produce enough red blood cells, so transfusions are essential for her survival.
“Every single time that you donate blood, she lives and thrives,” said Daniela’s mom, Nicole.
Daniela was diagnosed with thalassemia at just 14 months old and spent five days in the hospital receiving seven initial blood transfusions. Now, as a teenager, Daniela manages her condition with the help of generous blood donors who help enable her to enjoy being a teenager. She’s a dancer, and she helps her mom organize and run blood drives to help others.
“During my blood drives, I like to go to them because I like the people to see what they’re donating blood for, who they’re donating blood for,” Daniela said.
With about an hour of your time, you can help kids like Daniela receive blood transfusions that transform their lives. Your one blood donation can even help more than one person, increasing the impact of your selfless gift.
