Blood donations urgently needed in the final weeks of summer
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Aug. 8, 2016) — The American Red Cross and WKRN News 2 are teaming up to encourage eligible donors to end summer on a positive and potentially lifesaving note. The community is encouraged to roll up a sleeve to help patients in need by donating blood or platelets at the End of Summer Blood Drive Blowout on Monday, August 22 at seven area locations.
All presenting donors will receive a $5 Amazon.com gift card claim code, as well as special access to purchase discounted tickets to ten Cedar Fair theme parks across the U.S. (Cedar Fair will donate $2 from each discounted ticket purchase back to the Red Cross to support its humanitarian mission.)
“Between back-to-school planning and end-of-summer activities, this time of year can be an especially difficult time to collect blood,” said Mario Sedlock, director of donor recruitment, American Red Cross Tennessee Valley Blood Services Region. “We greatly appreciate WKRN News 2 for partnering with us, and all those who have made it a priority to give blood this summer.”
In early July, the Red Cross issued an urgent call for blood donors of all types to donate to help avert an emergency situation. While thousands of people from across the country have responded to the emergency request for blood and platelet donations, a critical blood shortage remains. All eligible donors are encouraged to help ensure blood is available throughout the rest of the summer to meet patient needs.
