RADNOR TOWNSHIP, Pa.— Donors of all blood types are invited to give blood with the American Red Cross on Tuesday, May 7 at the eighth annual Carol H. Axelrod Memorial Blood Drive in Radnor Township. Donation appointments are available between 7 a.m.-7 p.m. at the Radnor Township Municipal Building, 301 Iven Ave. in Wayne.
Appointments are strongly encouraged. To schedule an appointment to donate, visit RedCrossBlood.org or call 1-800-REDCROSS and enter sponsor code CHAMemorial.
All presenting donors will receive a gift bag, special refreshments and free entry into prize drawings.* In addition, as part of an ongoing “Community CHAllenge” initiative, Axelrod’s family will make monetary donations to two local organizations— Radnor Fire Company/Radnor Ambulance and Wayne Senior Center—for every unit of blood collected at the drive.
Over the past 11 years, the Carol H. Axelrod Memorial Blood Drive has hosted 27 blood drives, which have collected 4,127 units of blood. Because each unit of blood collected can help up to three people, the drives have directly impacted up to 12,381 patients.
“We created this blood drive as a way of giving back to the blood donor community that made it possible for my mother to receive all of the blood transfusions she needed during her treatment for cancer,” said Axelrod’s daughter Michelle Scolnick. “We will always be grateful for the extraordinary gift that blood donors gave us. In holding our own blood drives, we hope to make it possible for other families to have more time with a loved one who needs a transfusion. We are committed to doing our part to ensure that blood products are always available for those who need them.”
In addition to the May drive in Radnor, Axelrod’s family hosts blood drives in Bryn Mawr, Upper Gwynedd and Wynnewood in March, July and October, respectively. To learn more about Carol H. Axelrod Memorial Blood Drives, visit chablooddrive.org.
