LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Aug. 22, 2018) — The American Red Cross, Actors Theatre, Fifth Third Bank and 106.9 Play are teaming up for a hauntingly good cause: a blood drive guaranteed to spook Count Dracula and help patients in need this fall. The 14th Annual Dracula Blood Drive will take place Wednesday, Sept. 5, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. downtown on Fourth Street Live, 401 S. Fourth St., (in front of Fifth Third Bank).
All presenting donors will be entered into a drawing to win a pair of tickets to an upcoming performance of Fifth Third Bank’s “Dracula”, as well as receive a coupon for a free haircut via email courtesy of Sport Clips and enjoy free pizza from Pizza Bar and a free pint of ice cream courtesy of Velvet Ice Cream, while supplies last. Additionally, 106.9 Play will broadcast live and Dracula will take pictures with presenting donors from noon to 1 p.m.
“We know how much the community looks forward to the annual Dracula Blood Drive,” said Garry Allison, director of donor recruitment, American Red Cross River Valley Blood Services Region. “Actors Theatre, Fifth Third Bank and 106.9 Play help give back to the community by helping to increase the blood supply for patients, starving Dracula and providing great incentives to thank our generous donors for helping to ensure hospitals have the blood products they need.”
Just as blood is “too precious” to Dracula, it helps to save lives of hospital patients in need. Every two seconds in the United States blood is needed to respond to patient emergencies, including accident and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, and those receiving treatment for leukemia, cancer or sickle cell disease.

Every day, the Red Cross must collect more than 13,000 blood donations to help support accident victims, surgery patients, organ transplant patients, and those receiving treatment for leukemia, cancer or sickle cell disease. There is no substitute for donated blood products. In the River Valley Blood Services Region which includes Louisville, nearly 450 blood donations must be collected every day to meet the needs of more than 50 hospitals the Red Cross serves in the region.
How to donate blood
Simply download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit RedCrossBlood.org, sponsor code: Dracula or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) to make an appointment or for more information.
