The University of Arkansas and the American Red Cross team up to help save lives
Annual blood drive on campus Oct. 25-26
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (Oct 2, 2018) — The University of Arkansas and the American Red Cross are teaming up for the 16th consecutive year to help save lives through blood donations.
U of A students, faculty, alumni and the Fayetteville community are invited to donate blood on campus October 25-26 at the Union, 435 N. Garland Ave., on the 5th floor, from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. Everyone who attempts to donate will receive a special-edition T-shirt, while supplies last.
In the previous two years of this blood drive, the Red Cross and the University of Arkansas have collected 590 pints of blood. All blood types are needed at this year’s drive, and blood donations can be used to help patients across the Greater Ozarks and Arkansas Blood Services Region and beyond.
“The University of Arkansas students, faculty and community have always supported the Red Cross at this blood drive,” said Cassady Watkins, donor recruitment manager, Red Cross Greater Ozarks and Arkansas Blood Services Region. “We hope to have another successful event to help save hundreds of lives.”
Those with types O, A negative and B negative blood are encouraged to make a Power Red donation at this blood drive. Power Red donors give a concentrated dose of red blood cells during a single donation, allowing them to maximize their impact. During this type of donation, red blood cells are separated from other blood components, and the plasma and platelets are safely and comfortably returned to the donor.
Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood. Accident and burn victims, heart surgery patients, organ transplant patients, and those receiving treatment for leukemia, cancer or sickle cell disease may all need blood.
