The Greater Alleghenies Blood Services Region honors Volunteer of the Month Doris Costello
BALTIMORE, Md. (April 4, 2017) - April is National Volunteer Month. The Red Cross celebrates by honoring its volunteers, including Doris Costello. Doris is the Greater Alleghenies Blood Services Region’s volunteer of the month.
Doris has been a Red Cross Blood Donor Ambassador for 28 years. She serves in Jefferson County, West Virginia. Doris assists at blood drives when she is available and helps schedule other volunteers to do so! It is our pleasure to recognize Doris for her generosity of time and spirit.
Doris is a retired high school biology teacher. She began volunteering for the Red Cross after a good friend invited and encouraged her to join our lifesaving mission in Jefferson County.
When asked what she likes best about volunteering for the Red Cross, Doris said she enjoyed being helpful and really liked the people.
Volunteers carry out 90% of the humanitarian work of the Red Cross. It’s through the efforts of ordinary people, like Doris and you, that we can do extraordinary things. Whether it’s helping displaced families or assisting at blood drives, or delivering blood to a hospital with an urgent need, the vital, lifesaving work of the Red Cross depends on the kindness and generosity of every day heroes Doris.
