A special thanks to the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, DC for sponsoring an amazing blood drive this past fall and to St. Thomas’ Parish for hosting the drive. Members of the Chorus, community members and nearby workers all stopped in for about an hour to give the gift of life.
Last fall was a challenging time for the Southeast. The American Red Cross worked hard to restock critically needed blood products after the cancellation of blood drives across the region due to various storms and Hurricane Milton. Over half of the donors at the Gay Men’s Chorus and St. Thomas’ Parish drive were first-time donors and the Red Cross is so grateful for everyone in this community who showed up to give.
A more inclusive blood donation process allows for more eligible donors to give their lifesaving gift. Blood donations are needed both in times of crisis and every day throughout the year, and each donation has the potential to help more than one patient in need.
If you’re interested in sponsoring your own blood drive, you can find more information here. To schedule your next blood donation appointment, you can book by using the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting RedCrossBlood.org or calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
