A perfect match, JJ Kullberg and Danielle Giroux met last year in upstate New York. Danielle asked JJ to donate blood with her before their third date and recalls how he referred to it as their “blood date.” They went to a local blood drive, donated blood (Danielle donated whole blood and JJ did a Power Red donation), and then went to a brewery for burgers. This first “blood date” inspired the couple to continue donating together, and Danielle says it's become a fun challenge to see who can get the greater number of units logged in their American Red Cross Blood Donor App accounts.
“I've since switched to platelet donations, and I visit the Everett Road Platelet Donation Center in Albany, NY frequently,” says Danielle. “My father died from complications related to prostate cancer in 2016, and I understand the importance and need for platelets for patients with cancer. For my birthday in March, JJ suggested we try donating platelets together. It really melted my heart, and I can't think of a more perfect gift.”
