HERSHEY, Pa.— The Central Pennsylvania chapter of the American Red Cross honored Stephen Benedict, of Mountville, with the 2018 Biomedical Hero award on March 21 during an award reception at The Hersey Story Museum in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
Through his work with the Mountville Lions Club, Benedict has coordinated close to 70 Red Cross blood drives over the past 17 years, resulting in the collection of over 12,000 pints of blood.
Benedict attributes the success of the Lions Club blood drives to food. He and other volunteers prepare homemade soups, hot dogs and baked good for presenting donors to enjoy.
