Morrisville, Pa. resident Tami Leather was recognized by Cabot Creamery Co-operative with the Cabot Community Celebrity Award for her selfless volunteerism as an American Red Cross blood drive coordinator for Johnson & Johnson.
Leather’s connection with the Red Cross started as a blood donor. Throughout the past 20 years, she has made a direct positive impact on the blood drives at several of the Johnson & Johnson facilities at which she has worked. She has been recognized as a champion of the Red Cross blood program because of her dedicated efforts as a blood drive coordinator, including adding additional blood drives across different facilities. Her efforts have supported the overall collection growth to more than 500 units per year.
“Her personal story unfortunately includes sadness and heartache, the passing of family members and various struggles throughout her lifetime; however, you would never know how much she endured over the years because of her positive attitude toward all things,” said Carol Field, local Red Cross account executive. “Tami is genuinely dedicated to promoting blood donations and her strategies for her blood drives include creating fresh incentives and marketing ideas to engage prospective donors. She has an innate passion above and beyond the standard role as a coordinator.”
Leather is a role model as a regular blood and platelet donor, giving 119 donations through September 2016, which she also promotes on social media.” She projects her passion in her business e-mail signature with a daily call to donate “I Give Blood Will You?” She is a perfect example of a blood drive coordinator who is truly committed to the mission of the Red Cross to help save lives.
Leather and a guest will join more than 60 other altruistic individuals and their guests on an all-expenses paid Alaskan cruise aboard the Celebrity Cruise Solstice, departing Seattle, Washington in June 2017. Celebrity volunteers and their guests, along with the Cabot team, will set sail to ports of call including Ketchikan, Juneau and Skagway, Alaska as well as Victoria, British Columbia.
“The farm families who own Cabot are often the first to volunteer in their community,” said Roberta McDonald Senior Vice President of Marketing for the dairy cooperative. “Our farm families want show their gratitude to those changing the lives of others for the better and strengthening their local communities.”
The 2017 Cabot Community Celebrity Cruise marks the sixth time that the farmers who own Cabot Creamery Co-operative have honored volunteers in such a grand manner. Since 2010, the Cabot Community Celebrity Awards have recognized the contributions of select volunteers across the country, spotlighting those who serve others and make notable contributions to their communities, rewarding them with the trip of a lifetime.
“Blood drive coordinators are essential members of the Red Cross family, and serve as a vital link in the lifesaving chain that connects generous blood donors with the hospital patients in need of blood and blood products,” said Donna M. Morrissey, director of national partnerships, Red Cross Biomedical Services. “We appreciate the efforts of Cabot Creamery Cooperative to highlight and reward the remarkable contributions of these dedicated volunteers.”
