The American Red Cross, KRMG and FOX23 will continue their holiday tradition by hosting the ninth annual Tulsa Holiday Blood Drive. Area residents will have the opportunity to give the perfect gift while helping boost the blood supply prior to the holidays.
The 2016 Tulsa Holiday Blood Drive will be held Dec. 21 and 22, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., at the Red Cross Tulsa Blood Donation Center, 10151 E. 11th St. and, from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., at Woodland Hills Mall, 7021 S. Memorial Ave. All who come to give blood will receive a long-sleeved Red Cross T-shirt, while supplies last.
“KRMG has a rich history of giving back to our community, and we couldn’t do it without the most generous listeners in the land,” said Levi May, director of branding and programming, NEWS102.3 and AM740 KRMG. “We are calling on our listeners once again to help us, and the Red Cross, give the gift of life by donating the gift of blood.”
The Red Cross urges blood donors of all types to roll up a sleeve to help ensure patients continue to receive blood throughout the holiday season. To make an appointment for the Tulsa Holiday Blood Drive, download the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit redcrossblood.org, , or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
This blood drive comes at an important time. Now and throughout the holiday season, the Red Cross has a critical need for blood and platelet donations to help ensure patient needs continue to be met.
How to donate blood
All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
Blood donors can now save time at their next donation by using RapidPass to complete their pre-donation reading and health history questionnaire online, on the day of their donation, prior to arriving at the blood drive. To get started and learn more, visit redcrossblood.org/RapidPass and follow the instructions on the site.
