Donor StoriesReagan Calhoun came into the world 11 weeks early and needed blood at just 3 days old. At only 29 weeks pregnant, Reagan's mother, Amy, had a tear in the thin-walled sac of fluid that was protecting her baby. She was leaking amniotic fluid, and that was a major cause for concern. The baby was at risk of infection and typically labor begins within a few hours after a discovery like this. Reagan arrived on February 23rd, 2006 weighing in at 2 lbs., 13 ounces and just 15.6 inches long. Because of Reagan's early arrival, doctors had to run a battery of tests on her, all within her third day of life. All of this testing left Reagan a little short on blood and she needed a blood transfusion. Thanks to the help of the American Red Cross, Reagan received the blood that she needed. Without the help of donors like you, premature newborn babies like Reagan would have an even tougher fight. Today, Reagan Calhoun is a beautiful healthy little girl. Her eyes smile and her giggle is contagious. Her mom and dad could not imagine their lives without her, and they are truly grateful to blood donors like you who take time out of their lives to donate blood for people that they will never meet. You DO make a difference. Just look at little Reagan. —Reagan's Story
