I have a very rare blood type. O Neg. LAN factor. My Red Cross rare blood donor registry lists it as follows: rr LAN K-S Fy (b-)Jk(a-).
Looks like a very complicated algebra equation.
With what has happened in Boston, if the need is there, I would be happy to donate. Although I am 67, I am in very god health.

I have donated whole blood 53 times.....Three more donations and I'll receive my 7 gallon pin!
My blood type is O negative and is CMV negative meaning I can donate blood to pediatric patients!

I used to be terrified of needles! I would get nauseous and sweaty... and I hated feeling so out of control over my own body. After having giving birth to two children ( via C-section ) and being insulin dependent during the second pregnancy and having to inject myself four times daily- I realized I really was not afraid of these needles after-all.
I knew I had the kind of blood anyone could use. Only about 7% of all people have Type O negative blood and I felt I needed to help others by donating my O negative blood.
The Red Cross staff was very friendly and made sure I was OK through every step of the process and I had no ill effects from making my donation! I was HOOKED! I knew I could now do what I never could do in the past.
I am now referred to as a "vetran" donor by the Red Cross staff. It made me laugh when one of them said this- thinking back to before I ever donated and how I used to be so afraid. Now I donate every time the Red Cross calls me to remind me "it's time!" I feel really good that I am able to give the most precious gift ever- the gift of life. If I can do this- you can too!

Three years ago the thought of a needle anywhere near me made me sweat uncontrollably. But today I am a blood donor. I've donated blood 3 times at my high school, and tomorrow will be my 4th. I'm so incredibly proud to be a blood donor, and I try to encourage whoever I can to do it with me. I believe that having a needle sticking out of my arm for 10 minutes is a hell of a lot easier than dealing with the death of someone I care about because they couldn't get a transfusion. Everyone should do it!

I have donated blood since the age of 16. Because I have O negative blood I feel that I can save anyone. Knowing that my blood donation saves lives makes me happy. I donate everytime Red Cross comes near where I live.

i started giving blood when i was 16yr. my first time giving blood, i was a sophomore in high school and scared to death of needles. i got in the chair, they marked my arm and i started crying. i was sooo scared and i almost didn't do it but i toughed it out and did it. i found out i was O+ which is a universal blood type. it felt great to know that i can help save anyone's life and i have given blood 3x a year every sense that first day!!!

I first gave blood in 2012. I have always been a little scared to give blood. The experience was nothing that I expected. Everything went well and I am glad that I gave blood. Maybe it will help someone in need of blood. I gave blood this year and I will give again when the opportunity comes. I encourage others to give blood also.

I always wanted to be a superhero and save lives. Well, I didn't end up learning that I could leap tall buildings in a single bound or stop a speeding bullet, but I did learn that I had a pretty important blood type that was needed to help real heroes like doctors save lives. So now I make sure I donate blood every 8 weeks, so I can stand proud and call myself a hero!

Yesterday was my first time donating! It was amazing! The staffs was so kind and make sure I was ok. I didn't feel any light headed or dizziness. Most of all I'm deaf, they welcome deaf people who want to donate blood! They don't even require an interpreter to be there with you. I'm pretty thankful that I didn't get deferred for being deaf. They were soo interested in deaf people and their language (ASL). Before going to red cross, there was a blood drive at my school that was hosted by a medical center other than red cross. They deferred me just for not having an interpreter that were trained by them. I was so mad about that. Then I went to red cross and they were kind enough to do it for me! I love helping people more than anything in te world! It is great knowing that you are saving 3 people lives. I competing back to red cross to donate again in two months! I can't wait!! Thank you red cross!!!

The first time I ever donated blood was in High School. I only did it to get out of a class. I got very faint and almost passed out but everyone was so helpful and nice. I am so glad I donated that first time and continue to do so 15 years later. I use to get weak and nauseaous everytime I donated but continued to give because it is saving lives! I am O neg and that is the universal blood type, very much needed all over. After I had my child, I have been able to give blood and not get weak. I have given over a gallon of blood and will continue to give till I can't give anymore. IT SAVES LIVES!!!
