From fear of needles to joy in donation.

I had always been needle-phobic (like so many others), but when a close friend was very sick with cancer, our church held a blood drive for her. I could no longer avoid giving......It was the one thing I could do to help. Giving blood turned out to be so much easier than I had feared. I decided then and there that I wanted to give the gift of life to others, even if I did not know them. Sadly, my friend didn’t make it, but I have now given over 40 pints and I am certain that I have helped keep at least a few others alive. I now give double red cells when I can. It is easy, rewarding and really makes me feel like I just had an “oil change”!
