Half a Gallon and Counting

I made my first blood donation a week after I turned 16 at my school's blood drive. It seemed like a huge decision for me at the time and I was pretty nervous. I ate plenty of protein and iron and followed all the tips so the donation would go over without a hitch. After I did it, I realized donating blood wasn't such a scary thing and I felt proud to have given for the better health of others; a reverse birthday gift, you might say. I was elated when I got my blood donor card. For me, there is no happier feeling than being a part of something that helps others. This friday will be my fifth donation since i started last year, again right after my birthday, and I hope to give many more donations through my life.
