National Blood Collectors Week

September 10, 2012

During the week of September 9-15, the Tennessee Valley Blood Services Region will join other blood centers across the country in celebrating Blood Collectors Week, sponsored by AABB and Fenwal, Inc. This annual recognition week recognizes and celebrates the critical role our blood collector’s serve in helping to ensure blood is available to patients in need.

Without your outstanding work, blood transfusions that are needed on a daily basis wouldn’t be possible. The blood products you collect help people with serious medical conditions, including cancer patients, organ transplant recipients, and accident and trauma victims.

As blood collection professionals, you serve a critical role in educating donors and helping to ensure a safe and comfortable donation experience. “When people volunteer to donate blood, the quality of their experience is often determined by how they are treated by staff,” said Matt Carver, Collections Director of the American Red Cross Tennessee Valley Blood Services Region. “When a staff member smiles at a donor or helps when a donor may be nervous, they are helping save lives by ensuring they get a successful donation and making the donor want to come back. We are grateful to all of our staff members who show good attitudes on the job.”

To say THANK YOU, we will be holding special events every day this week!
