Paula Deen and Her Family Team Up With the American Red Cross to Help Save Lives

October 31, 2012

Paula Deen and her family have been long-time supporters of the American Red Cross and giving blood.  And, the family is asking their fans to help save lives by donating blood at their blood drive on Friday, November 30, 2012 in Savannah.  This is the fourth blood drive Paula Deen Enterprises has sponsored with the Red Cross.

Donors can choose from one of three locations - The Lady and Sons restaurant 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the Inn at Ellis Square and Uncle Bubba's Oyster House from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Presenting blood donors will receive a limited edition apron, autographed by Paula Deen; a $40 gift card to be redeemed at The Lady & Sons restaurant, Uncle Bubba’s Oyster House or Paula Deen’s Retail Store (must be redeemed between November 30 and December 2, 2012); and The Lady & Sons signature Gooey Butter Cakes in the canteen.

“I first donated blood in 1985 and continue to make an effort to donate when I can,” said Jamie Deen.  “I encourage those able to donate to roll up a sleeve because you never know when someone you know will need blood to help save their life.”

Approximately 1,200 blood donations are needed daily in the Southern Blood Services Region to maintain an adequate supply for more than 120 local hospitals.  Blood can be safely donated every 56 days. Most healthy people age 17 and older, or 16 with parental consent, who weigh at least 110 pounds, are eligible to donate blood and platelets. Donors age 18 and younger must also meet specific height and weight requirements.
