“There is a constant need for blood and the need doesn’t stop because of the holidays,” said Jerry J.K. Tillery, chief executive officer, American Red Cross Southern Blood Services Region.  “We thank 41NBC for spreading the word about the importance of blood donation and encouraging others to give the gift of life this holiday season.”

Each presenting donor will receive a free Red Cross t-shirt and be entered to win a $1,000 gift card.

Approximately 1,200 blood donations are needed daily in the Southern Blood Services Region to maintain an adequate supply for 100 local hospitals.  Blood can be safely donated every 56 days. Most healthy people age 17 and older, or 16 with parental consent, who weigh at least 110 pounds, are eligible to donate blood and platelets. Donors age 18 and younger must also meet specific height and weight requirements.
