WMMR Listeners Give Back During Annual Blood Drive

June 30, 2011

Oaks, PA, - 93.3 WMMR, in partnership with the American Red Cross, hosted their 6th annual “I Bleed for Preston & Steve” blood drive on Saturday June 25th  in Oaks, PA at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center. An amazing 1,174 units of blood were collected which could potentially help to save more than 3,500 lives across the Penn-Jersey Region.

Preston and Steve were the first ones through the door at 6 A.M. to make what Preston calls a, “cool small self sacrifice.” Not long after, listeners lined up at the door in hopes to meet the morning show team and make a self sacrifice of their own -- donating blood.

The festive atmosphere kept spirits high all day while donors continued to pour in. Donors were able to get autographs, take photos and chat with Preston, Steve, Casey, Nick, Marisa, Kathy, and all of 93.3 WMMR. Listeners walked away with a t-shirt and a few lucky donors were chosen to receive tickets to the Def Leppard concert.

“It was Preston’s idea,” Steve said “We help to turn a lot of people on to giving blood by providing a friendly face to look at supporting them while they donate.”

Anthony Tornetta, Regional Communications Manager at the American Red Cross couldn’t be happier with the outcome, “This event continues to amaze me, as the morning show team and their listeners annually show up and give to help patients across our region. Over the past 6 years WMMR listeners have donated 6,409 units of blood during the Annual Preston and Steve Blood Drive, which potentially has helped save more than 19,000 lives.”
