Philadelphia Eagles Fans Make a Difference with American Red Cross

December 20, 2010

When it comes to saving lives, Eagles fans know the play!

More than 830 Volunteer blood donors – the most in Eagles blood drive history – came to Lincoln Financial Field on Saturday, December 4, for the 3rd Annual Philadelphia Eagles Blood Drive.  Organized by the American Red Cross and the Eagles, the massive blood drive began at 6:00 a.m. and continued non-stop until 2:00 p.m.

“This event was truly a championship effort,” said Anthony C. Tornetta, Regional Communications Manager, American Red Cross.  “Thanks to the overwhelming support from the Eagles, fans, volunteers and media, we were able to collect over 870 units of blood. Ultimately 2,610 lives can potentially be saved because of the efforts from all involved.”

All presenting blood donors at Lincoln Financial Field on Saturday December 4th received plenty of perks including a limited edition special event long sleeve shirt, prize packs filled with Eagles goodies and a chance to meet Eagles Legends Bill Bergey and Vince Papale. Finally, six lucky donors were randomly selected to win a pair of AAA FanZone Party tickets to the 2011 Season Home Opener.

To date, fans have donated approximately 2,515 units of blood at Eagles Blood Drives – providing a second chance for more than 7,500 hospital patients across the Philadelphia Region.
