6th Annual Philadelphia Flyers & 76ers American Red Cross Blood Drive Proves Philly FANS Are The Best!

January 19, 2012

More than 1400 Volunteer blood donors came to Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center on Saturday, January 16, 2012 in support of the 6th Annual Philadelphia Flyers & 76ers Blood Drive.

Organized by the American Red Cross and Comcast Spectacor, the massive blood drive began at 5:30 a.m. and continued
non-stop until 1:30 p.m.

Similar to the Emergency Room of a hospital, the American Red Cross must be prepared to respond to patient emergencies with blood products 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Thanks to the overwhelming support from Philadelphia Flyers and 76ers fans, volunteers and media, the Red Cross was able to collect over 1,300 units of blood. Ultimately 3,942 lives can potentially be saved because of the efforts from all involved.

All presenting blood donors received their choice of either a Special Event Danny Briere Jersey Style T-shirt or a 76ers T-shirt.

The annual event plays a key role in building a stable blood supply and helping to safeguard against a winter blood shortage throughout the winter season.
