Santa Cruz Blood Donor Wins Lake Tahoe Ski Package

February 16, 2010

Miriam Ting's commitment to blood donation recently earned her a winter getaway. The Santa Cruz resident won a ski trip package for two to Lake Tahoe in a drawing held by the American Red Cross Northern California Blood Services Region.

The package included a one-night stay at Harrah's Lake Tahoe and two 2-day ski passes at Heavenly Valley Ski Resort.

Ting has donated blood at Santa Cruz-area Red Cross blood drives regularly since 1995, and says she has donated nearly six gallons of blood overall since 1992. She currently donates blood at the Santa Cruz Community blood drive.

Ting, who is also on the National Bone Marrow Registry, began donating blood in the 1970s while working as a pharmacist at John Muir Medical Center in Antioch.

"I couldn't see a reason not to donate," Ting said. "From being in the health care profession, I knew it was important to do."

The Santa Cruz Community blood drive is held twice a month at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 220 Elk Street in Santa Cruz.

In February, the Red Cross is holding weekly drawings for "Movies for a Year." Each winner will receive 12 pairs of movie passes to CineMark or Regal movie theaters … or a mix of both. In March, the Red Cross will hold weekly drawings for a $100 gift certificate, which can be used toward the purchase of any Red Cross Training Course or item(s) sold in the Red Cross store.*

These drawings are open to all presenting donors. Call 1-800-RED CROSS (800-733-2767) or click on any of the links below to schedule an appointment for an upcoming drive.
