Chillicothe Media Drive a big success

August 25, 2010

The media is a competitive industry, but the Chillicothe, Mo., media proved this week how competing media outlets working together can benefit a community.

Four media outlets joined forces for the first American Red Cross Chillicothe Media Blood Drive, and the results exceeded expectations.

The Chillicothe Constitution-Tribune, the Ad Pages, KULH Radio and KCHI Radio combined to sponsor a five-hour blood drive Aug. 23 at the Comfort Inn in Chillicothe.

In addition to promoting the drive, each outlet was asked to take the responsibility for setting a certain amount of appointments. The result? 45 units of blood collected, topping the goal of 40 and potentially helping to save the lives of 135 individuals.

Donors included members of the sponsoring media outlets as well as residents of Chillicothe and neighboring towns. Clay Jensen, morning host on KCHI, called in a live report to the afternoon show as he was on the bed preparing to donate.
