100.7 WZLX Hosts Four American Red Cross Blood Drives on January 15th!

January 13, 2010

WZLX DJs on hand at each drive and all presenting donors get a coupon for a free pound of Dunkin’ Donuts coffee!

WHAT:         100.7 WZLX is teaming up with the American Red Cross to help collect blood for patients in need by hosting four blood drives across Eastern Massachusetts on Friday, January 15. WZLX DJs will be on hand at each blood drive (see below for list of locations and DJ appearances) and the first 100 donors at each blood drive will receive a free commemorative t-shirt.
As part of the “Give a Pint, Get a Pound” campaign, all presenting donors will receive a coupon for a free pound of Dunkin’ Donuts coffee*, redeemable at participating Dunkin’ Donuts stores.
Winter is a challenging time for blood collections because of severe weather and the flu season, so the public is encouraged to roll up their sleeves to give the gift of life.
Those who would like to make an appointment to donate at one of the below WZLX-sponsored blood drives can call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE or visit RedCrossBlood.org.

About the American Red Cross:
The American Red Cross Blood Services - Northeast Division must distribute approximately 3,000 units of blood each day just to meet the basic needs of area patients. Only five percent of those eligible to donate blood actually do so. Blood must be available whenever and wherever it is needed for patients. Blood is used for surgical procedures, organ transplants, trauma and chemotherapy. For some patients, such as the victim of an automobile accident, the need for blood is sudden. For others, ongoing transfusions are needed to help sustain lifesaving medical treatment.
Individuals who are at least 17 years of age (16 with parental permission), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.  Please bring your Red Cross blood donor card or other form of positive ID when you come to donate.
For press inquiries, please contact Melissa Quinlan at 781-461-2033 or quinlanme@usa.redcross.org.
