Important Information Regarding Exposure to Measles
Thank you for coming in to donate today.
Since January 1, 2019, ten states have reported cases of measles to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). There has never been a known case of measles being transmitted through blood transfusion. The Red Cross is dedicated to providing the safest, most reliable blood products possible to patients in need. If you have been exposed to a person with measles you can still donate if you:
- Are healthy and well and have been vaccinated for measles more than 4 weeks ago.
- Were born before 1956.
DO NOT DONATE TODAY if you have been exposed to a person with measles if you:
- Are unvaccinated for measles
- Vaccinated for measles less than 4 weeks ago.
Please wait 4 weeks from the date of vaccination or exposure before donating.
