Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are critical to the American Red Cross Blood Services' mission of supplying the safest possible, most reliable, most cost effective blood through voluntary donations. As an American Red Cross volunteer you can help others, gain experience and make friends. Your talents will be used to help the Red Cross to provide blood to people in need.
 
The American Red Cross is an organization governed, supported and primarily staffed by volunteers. Today, 1.3 million Americans throughout the nation are Red Cross volunteers. The New York-Penn Region depends upon its volunteers to provide services that are essential to its mission. We truly could not save lives without you!
 
The New York Penn Region offers a variety of Volunteer Opportunities as outlined below:
 
Blood Drive Volunteers receive their training and are scheduled through local Red Cross Chapters. They work at blood drives and fixed sites in their own neighborhoods. Volunteers pre-assemble supplies that are used at blood drives. Individuals, families, civic or corporate groups find this a fun and rewarding way to make a difference. Rochester Center only.
Volunteers in this capacity perform outreach at blood drives and other venues.  They provide educational literature and information to prospective donors about participating in this special type of donation.  A background in sales or education would be helpful in this position; experience as an apheresis donor is preferable.
Volunteers call blood donors to make repeat donation appointments.  The calls may take place at various Red Cross Chapter Offices, in schools, businesses, or the volunteer’s home.
Volunteers are called several times a year to assist with special event preparation.  Duties may include assembling favors and gift bags, setting up and decorating space, and greeting attendees for events such as recognition luncheons and dinners, open houses, meetings, and trainings.
Volunteers are called occasionally to engage in activities that increase awareness of Blood Services and promote the American Red Cross brand.  They may staff tables, march in parades, distribute literature, or speak at public events.  
Volunteers provide a critical service as they transport blood from area blood drives, deliver blood to hospitals, and make shuttle runs between the centers in the Region. Red Cross vehicles are provided, however, reimbursement is given if a personal vehicle is used.  Centers are located in Rochester, Buffalo, Syracuse, Utica, and Albany. Time...
