Current volunteer opportunities:

Duties: Welcome each donor, have them sign in, and keep track of appointments and “walk-ins.” You will also help ensure sure all donors proceed through the process in an orderly and timely manner. Other duties will vary depending on the blood drive.
After donating, donors are required to rest for fifteen minutes in a refreshment area referred to as the “Canteen.” You will welcome and thank donors, provide beverages/snacks, and monitor them for signs of physical reaction to the donation so you can alert staff if needed.
Deliver blood products from our Oakland office to Bay Area hospitals. Red Cross vehicles and mobile communications are provided and boxes are prepared and sealed prior to pick-up for delivery.
If you have general office and/or computer skills, you can help out with projects at the 6230 Claremont Avenue facility in Oakland (near Rockridge BART). These include database, web, and brochure design; community outreach; and vital support for our administrative departments.
Duties: Represent the American Red Cross at community events and speak to community groups about blood donation and blood drive sponsorship. Assist in recruiting blood donors, volunteers, and sponsors for blood drives in Santa Cruz, Monterey, and San Benito counties. Commitment: 6 to 18 hours a month
