In the early 1990's I was asked by a friend to donate in the name of a mutual friend of ours who was sick and planning some surgical procedures. I swallowed hard and participated. Through that first donation I found out that my blood I'd free of CMV and is greatly valued and appreciated for use with premature babies. So I now give as regularly as possible, with a few lapses here and there. It is not easy for me to donate...I have a fear of needles, it is not a comfortable process. But I have been made to feel so good about my gift by all the staff I have met over the years that it gives me the courage to continue. Who can say "No" to those little preemies?!
