I remember the first time I tried to donate blood. It was my Senior year in HS, unfortunately they turned me down because of low iron. When I tried the 2nd time, I made sure I drank a lot of water before I donated, and ate foods that were high in iron about a week before I was supposed to donate blood. After I filled out my papers, and they called my name, I went to the station where they checked my iron level as well as my vital signs. To my surprise, when they checked my iron level, it was just high enough for me to donate. When I heard the news from the nurse, I threw my hands in the air with pure joy and excitement. I think the best part during my donation, was the friendly staff from Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank,CA. They made sure I was ok, even during the donation, and helped me even further by providing me with water. Though the needle hurt, first coming in, I quickly got over it, and a few days later, it healed up perfectly. I am so glad I was able to help people by donating my blood. And there is another blood drive coming up next week at College of the Canyons, and I am 18 so I can sign my own papers, woo-hoo. Can't wait!!!
