Valentine's Donation

When I woke up on February 14, 2013, donating blood was not at the top of my “to do” list. I was pre occupied trying to get all those last minute Valentine errands accomplished and eating my fair share of holiday candy. However, after running errands all day, my family and I were about to pass the American Red Cross and decided today seemed like a good day to check it out. I have a healthy lifestyles blog where I’m also documenting a “30 before 30” journey. I have a list of 30 things I want to accomplish in one year before I turn 30 years old. Donating blood is on that list and for some reason just hasn’t been crossed off yet (probably the whole giant needle in the arm thing). But since I had a bit of free time, I thought it would definitely be memorable to donate on Valentine’s Day. In fact I thought it would be a unique tradition to start. People don’t really need an excess of chocolates, flowers, and teddy bears, but there is a real need for blood donors. My visit at the American Red Cross was fantastic and I will not feel hesitant about donating blood anymore. The staff was very friendly and made the whole experience quick and easy. I will most certainly be back, and I’m glad I had the opportunity to be introduced to this simple form of service that more people should be aware of. Thank you Red Cross!
