First Time Donation Leads to a Lifetime of Donating

I first gave blood in April 1995, shortly after the Oklahoma City bombing. I had few funds for sending a monetary donation or for making purchases of needed items, and the needs were so great during that horrific time. However, I was healthy, and there was such a need of blood, that I figured I could overcome my anxiety of needles and help with a blood donation. I felt so good after making that first donation that I have continued to donate, every 56 days if possible. I think I'm up to ten gallons. Donating blood is not for everyone, but it is a way that I can pay all of my blessings forward and can feel that my act will directly benefit another person.
