I had always wanted to donate blood, but never did in fear of needles. This past summer, I was on vacation in Mississippi visiting family with my mom. We decided to go to the mall one afternoon, where a huge Red Cross blood drive was being held. When a volunteer at the blood drive told me that they were in a crisis and in desperate need of blood donations, I knew it was time for me to get over my fear of needles. My mom and I both decided to give blood that day. The gratification of dealing with a little pain to save up to three lives within minutes was the best feeling in the world. It's possible to be a hero any day, even on your vacation.
