16 and Saving

October 10, 2012
When I was 16, 2 summers ago, I went in for brain surgery at Children's Hospital Los Angeles. Everything went well, and I recovered quickly. But I learned something in that hospital- on the lower half of the building there is a Red Cross Blood Bank for kids like me who go in for surgeries and stuff. Some kids need emergency blood. If you donate just once, you can save 3 lives that way. I am O+, my blood is common and needed. As soon as it was possible, I started donating at the blood drives in my high school every few months. It's the best feeling in the world to know that there could be a kid out there with your blood inside of her because she needed it. And you provided. It's magical.
