For years both of my parents donated blood, having rather rare blood types. My dad often said that he never gave up an opportunity to donate blood, and as a child I remember him coming home with that little ball of cotton taped to his inner arm. However, due to new laws my parents could not longer donate due to them having lived in Europe for certain years, thanks to being from military families. That's when I started donating. I have a relatively rare blood type myself, and whenever there's a blood drive I do my best to always get out and donate. Now if only they could make it so those 5'4" people can donate two pints!
