My father has been donating blood since I was just a kid. He would go every two months, and relate to me why he thought it was so important. His example inspired me to try it out, and become a donor. After I realized how desperate some people were for blood, my fear of needles left instantly! Now as I walk around hospitals, I think about the fact that I may have helped some of those people to live. I now understand that people need blood, regardless of their own fear for needles, so I am comfortable with the 2-3 seconds of slight discomfort, which helps them in their moments of need.
