For those who say that karma can be tough, I would suggest it can also be a lifesaver. With O neg blood I have felt the responsibility to give at regular intervals, especially since moving to Minnesota, and this last week I needed blood and it was there. I had a gastric bleed and was admitted to the hospital with a 4.6 hemoglobin level where normal is 14-17. With a total of 6 units of blood I am at the point, 5 days later, that I can return to work. I am working hard to get my hemoglobin back up so that when I can return to donating, I will be able to do just that. Now I feel the appreciation that folks feel when strangers commit to freely giving of themselves for someone else's benefit.
So, to all you donors out there, especially my O neg brothers and sisters, THANK YOU. I will get myself healthy and get back to donating as soon as I can!
