Blood Donation Centers
I started donating whole blood in a competition between the University of Michigan and Ohio State University. Once I graduated, I was asked if I would be interested in donating platelets. At that time you donated for a specific person. Before the appointment, I received a call letting me know that the person I was donating for had passed away. These telephone calls changed my priorities. I have let everyone know that if the American Red Cross calls they have top priority.
I have also recruited other platelet donors. One is my brother, who is a regular donor now.

Pint Size Heroes Program
Beginning in 2005, the Pint Size Hero program is a community service project developed by the American Red Cross to introduce children to the importance of donating blood. The program encourages students to invite parents, guardians and other adults to give blood on their behalf. Congratulations to our promotion winners
And the winners are . . .
Everyone who donates blood through the American Red Cross is a winner. Something very special happens when someone rolls up a sleeve and gives blood. Pride. Joy. Gratification. Those are just some of the benefits a blood donor receives.
Every now and then special gifts are offered as a thank you to donors who take that all important step and come to donate blood.
Congratulations to the winners of our latest promotions – you deserve it!
$500 Visa Card: Paul Johnston who came to donate at St. Anthony Catholic Church
Concert Tickets*: Jacqueline Brandel who came to donate blood at Clarkston United Methodist Church
*Tickets offered in the promotion were for the Lady Gaga concert that was cancelled. Tickets for the Bob Seger concert were substituted.

Host a Mini Blood Drive!
Your Organization Could Help Save Lives
Not every organization or business is able to host a blood drive at its own facility. Smaller organizations and businesses can be part of the Red Cross team by sponsoring a blood drive at a local American Red Cross Blood Donor Center.
The Mini Blood Drive Program is a quick and easy, outreach opportunity for smaller groups. Your group provides the donors and someone to coordinate the blood drive, and the Red Cross provides the place as well as support and publicity materials to help make the drive a success.
For more information or to sign up for the Mini Blood Drive Program please contact Denise Thompson at 313-549-7091 or by e-mail.
