South Carolina Region - American Red Cross

The American Red Cross South Carolina Blood Services Region provides lifesaving blood to patients in 54 hospitals in South Carolina and Georgia, including Augusta and surrounding areas.
To meet the needs of hospital patients in the region, about 500 people need to give blood each weekday. There is no substitute for blood; volunteer donors are the only source.

To offer convenient opportunities to donate blood, the local Red Cross operates donor centers and mobile blood drives throughout the region. There are seven community blood donor centers in Columbia, Charleston, Mount Pleasant, Myrtle Beach, Florence, and Sumter. On any given day, blood drives are held at schools, colleges, places of worship, businesses, malls and other locations. In total, the South Carolina Blood Services Region holds about 4,500 blood drives a year.

Headquartered in Columbia, the South Carolina Blood Services Region distributes about 130,000 units of whole blood and 12,000 units of platelets annually. The need for blood continues to rise. The only way the Red Cross can meet the demand is through one simple, selfless act: an average person takes time out of their busy schedule to give the gift of life.
