Donor StoriesI first began donating blood and platelets shortly after graduating from college. I have donated 21 gallons and continue to help the American Red Cross in many different ways. I’ve hosted blood drives, helped raise funds for the organization, and served as a board member. I have also conducted bone marrow testing drives after successfully donating my own bone marrow to a recipient. I have served as a board member for the Red Cross Southwest Washington Chapter and also for the Red Cross Pacific Northwest Blood Services Region. Most recently I served as a board chairperson, which greatly enriched my participation with the Red Cross. I find that the more I give, the more I get back. Being involved with the Red Cross helps me keep my personal and professional life in perspective. While I have hard days like everyone else, it’s nothing compared to someone who has lost everything in a house fire or some other disaster. I have been blessed in my life and want to share those blessings with others. I can’t think of a better organization to share my time and talents with than the Red Cross. —Brian Carlson
