FAQ

Where is this Program Available?
The Heritage Division of the American Red Cross which is composed of the following Regions: Appalachian, Greater Alleghenies, Greater Chesapeake & Potomac, Mid-Atlantic and Penn-Jersey.

Why are you changing the program?
Donors asked and the American Red Cross listened! The American Red Cross knows that donors give platelets to help save lives, and this program is a nice way to thank donors like you who are dedicated to our life-saving mission. Red Cross Rewards allows donors to pick the gift certificate choice that works for them.

Will this replace any other milestone rewards programs?
Yes, Red Cross Platelet Rewards Club will be the only donor loyalty program/club starting in 2012. It will replace all former donor loyalty programs.

If I make a double or triple platelet donation? Do I get more points?
No, each donation is rewarded with one point regardless of whether it is a single, double or triple. Please don’t let that stop you from doing doubles or triples if you have done them in the past. The American Red Cross needs you! Your donations are used for people battling cancer and leukemia, burn victims, those who have had surgery. Platelets only have a shelf life of 5 days, so please donate often! You can donate platelets every 7 days, 24 times a year.

How will I redeem my Donor Rewards Points?
For two weeks each quarter, donors can redeem Rewards Club Points early by going online to turn them into a Rewards Club Certificate. Donors do not need to tally their own points. The American Red Cross will notify you about your available point total as the early redemption periods approach. You will need to redeem your points during an early redemption period or during the final redemption period.

What if I do not redeem my Donor Rewards Points during one of the redemption periods?
If you do not redeem your Rewards Club Points by the final redemption period, the program will reset to zero on January 1, 2013. Points do not carry over from one program year to the next, nor are they transferable.

What if I don't want a gift certificate, but would rather give my points back to the American Red Cross? Is this an option?
Yes, you absolutely have the choice to donate your Rewards Club Points back to the American Red Cross.

What kind of choices are there for Rewards Club Gift Certificates?
There are many choices! The American Red Cross encourages you to save your points until the last redemption to maximize your available gift certificate options. Some of the choices include Outback Steakhouse, Ruby Tuesday, Old Navy, Pier 1, Bass Pro Shops, Macy’s, Petco, AMC Movie Theaters and many, many more! You can break down your gift certificate into multiple certificates. For example, if a donor earns a $100 Rewards Club Certificate, the option is available to break it down to four $25 gift certificates or another variation.

If I redeem a portion of my points early, will any remaining points carry over to the next redemption period?
No, any points remaining after points are exchanged for a gift certificate are lost and the point total resets to zero. Points do not carry over. You can save your points until the final redemption to maximize your gift card options.

May I participate in the Red Cross Rewards Club for whole blood and the Red Cross Platelet Rewards Club?
Yes, you can be both a blood donor and a platelet donor and be a member of both programs. The great part is that you don’t even need to enroll. You are automatically enrolled the first time that you donate and you are rewarded with one free bonus point to start you on your way toward earning rewards. Your points cannot be combined though. The two programs are separate.

The Red Cross Rewards Club Heritage Division program runs January 1, 2012-December 31, 2012.  Donors must donate in the American Red Cross Heritage Division to be eligible to participate in the Red Cross Rewards Club. Gift certificates are non-transferable and are not redeemable for cash. Some eligibility requirements may apply for the program. All early redemptions prior to the last quarter must be processed electronically and require an email address. Point accumulation resets once a donor redeems their points for a gift certificate. Points do not carry over from one program year to the next nor are they transferable. Any points remaining after points are exchanged for a gift certificate are lost and the point total resets to zero. Bonus Point Days will be indicated whenever they apply, allowing donors to receive extra points. Points must be redeemed during an open redemption period. If a donor misses the final redemption period, the points will reset to zero for the next year.   The American Red Cross reserves the right to adjust, enhance, or make additional changes to the program as deemed necessary.

† Quarters are defined as January-March, April-June, July-September and October-December.
