“Raise the Red” with the Atlanta Hawks and the American Red Cross
The Atlanta Hawks and the American Red Cross are teaming up to “Raise the Red” on Friday, December 28, 2012 at Atlantic Station from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Join the Hawks and the Red Cross for a blood drive inside of the former Fox Sports Grill. Presenting donors will receive two complimentary ticket vouchers to a Hawks regular season home game and entry into a drawing for autographed Hawks memorabilia.
“Encouraging Atlanta residents and Atlanta Hawks fans to donate blood to the Red Cross is a small thing that we can do to make a significant impact on the state of Georgia,” stated Bob Williams, president, Atlanta Hawks and Philips Arena. “We are proud to support the efforts of the American Red Cross and continue our dedication to making a difference in the lives of individuals in our community.”
Donating blood only takes about an hour and one donation could help save up to three lives. Blood can be donated every 56 days, and platelets can be donated every two weeks, up to 24 times per year. People ages 17 and older – 16 with parental consent – weighing at least 110 pounds are eligible to donate both blood and platelets. Donors age 18 and younger must meet additional height and weight requirements.
“We are excited to partner with the Atlanta Hawks to help meet patient needs,” said Randy Edwards, chief executive officer, American Red Cross Southern Blood Services Region. “The need for blood is constant and we rely on the generosity of volunteer donors.”
The Red Cross Southern Blood Services Region provides lifesaving blood to patients in more than 120 hospitals. Approximately 1,200 people need to give blood or platelets each week day to meet hospital demands.
