The American Red Cross is doing something innovative this fall to encourage volunteers to help in its efforts to save lives. The Red Cross will be giving away one 2009 Jonway USA Scooter to a lucky volunteer. The eligible volunteers have all given 48 hours or more of their time at donor centers during the months of August and September.

“We are constantly looking for ways to encourage more volunteers at the American Red Cross. We would also like to be able to thank our current volunteers who devote so much of their time and energy into making a difference,” said Heather Johnson, Volunteer Administrator. “Our volunteers play such a critical role in the donation and collection process and I am 100% certain we would not be able to do what we do without the dedication of our volunteers. We at the Red Cross would like to give a warm thank-you to all of our volunteers.”

On October 14, 2009 at 12PM the winner will be announced at the Detroit Donor Center located at the American Red Cross Southeastern Michigan Blood Services Headquarters, 100 Mack Ave. All of the Red Cross Volunteers who qualify will be present and one of them will take home a brand new scooter, courtesy of Scooter LLC in Redford, MI. The prize scooter is a 250CC Jonway USA 2009 model, with a driving speed up to 90mph and gets 80 miles per gallon.

The objective of the American Red Cross scooter promotion is two-fold; it is a thank-you to the current volunteers, and it is a wonderful opportunity to stage the importance of volunteering. From sitting with the donors at the juice and cookies table, to recruiting people to come to donate, the volunteers of the American Red Cross bring a certain compassion to the blood donation process that no one else can.
