American Red Cross and Edible Arrangements® Launch Summer Partnership, “Make an Arrangement to Help Save Lives”

The American Red Cross and Edible Arrangements®, the pioneer and leader in artistically designed fresh fruit displays and chocolate dipped fruit, are partnering during the month of August to “Make an Arrangement to Help Save Lives”. During the month of August, all presenting blood donors at American Red Cross blood drives will receive a free coupon* for a free box of six pieces of chocolate dipped fruit as a thank you for coming in to donate blood at a time when blood donations tend to drop due to hot weather, school vacations and holiday travel.

The Red Cross appreciates the hundreds of donors in this community who responded to the appeal for blood issued in July. However, the need still remains as the blood supply is not yet back up to adequate levels, and blood products continue to go to area hospitals just as quickly as they are coming in.
Nationally, more than 500,000 blood donors are needed during the month of August to help the Red Cross keep up with demand across the country, and each and every blood donor can make a world of difference to a patient in need.

About the American Red Cross:
The American Red Cross South Carolina Blood Services Region provides lifesaving blood to 54 hospitals and must have 500 people give blood and platelets each weekday to meet hospital demand. Accident victims as well as patients with cancer, sickle cell disease, blood disorders and other illnesses receive lifesaving transfusions every day. There is no substitute for blood and volunteer donors are the only source.
Blood can be safely donated every 56 days. Platelets can be given safely every two weeks, up to 24 times a year. Most healthy people age 17 and older, 16 with parental consent, who weigh at least 110 pounds, are eligible to donate blood and platelets. Donors who are 18 and younger must also meet specific height and weight requirements.
