Blood donation is the perfect gift for patients in need. The 34th Annual American Red Cross Donorama Blood Drive celebrates that spirit of generosity by bringing together 1,500 blood donors over two days who will donate the perfect gift to patients.

Wednesday, December 28 and Thursday, December 29

Noon to 7 p.m. each day

Crowne Plaza – formerly Executive West Hotel

830 Phillips Lane

Louisville, Ky.

As an official sponsor of this year’s Red Cross Donorama blood drive, Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) is providing a $10 KFC gift check to all presenting blood donors. Colonel Sanders himself will also be on hand to thank all presenting donors.

“By donating blood at the Red Cross Donorama blood drive, you can help ensure a sufficient blood supply for patients as we start a new year,” said Linda Voss, CEO for the River Valley Blood Services Region of the American Red Cross. “We want to encourage all eligible blood donors in the area to schedule their Donorama appointments now.”

Call 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit redcrossblood.org to make an appointment or for more information.

“It’s the holiday season and there’s no more appropriate time to celebrate the spirit of giving,” said Andrew Ma, vice president of Consumer Insights for KFC, American Red Cross Volunteer and River Valley Blood Services Region board member. “KFC is proud to support the Louisville Donorama Blood Drive by rewarding the generosity of presenting donors by treating them to a free holiday meal at KFC.”

The Louisville Donorama will have something for the entire family. Blood recipients will be on hand to tell their stories and personally thank blood donors. Each presenting donor will also have a chance to write a personal note about their donation, and those messages will be placed on a large display at the drive. Entertainment on both days will be supplied by local bands - courtesy of the Louisville Musicians Union. Hot meals will be featured in the refreshment area, and childcare will be provided throughout the drive.

All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license, or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental permission in some states), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
